Melopoeus lividus - Cobalt Blue Tarantula
Approx. 4.5" confirmed female already established in a complete glass fossorial enclosure with deep substrate, a secure burrow and water dish. You're getting the tarantula in the habitat she's already established rather than having to immediately rehouse a large fossorial Old World species.
The Cobalt Blue is one of the most iconic Asian tarantulas in the hobby, and mature females are where this species really earns the name. Beneath the otherwise dark body are intensely metallic cobalt-blue legs that can look almost electric under the right lighting.
They're obligate burrowers, extremely fast and highly defensive when disturbed, with medically significant venom, so this is one of the species I reserve for experienced keepers. Give them deep, slightly moist substrate and a secure retreat and they'll spend most of their time underground, emerging around the burrow entrance when they're ready to feed.
This species was previously known as Cyriopagopus lividus, which is the name currently used on my care guide.
