Dairy Cows are one of the hobby's classic isopods, and for good reason. Their bold black and white patterning makes every colony look a little different, and they're active enough that you actually get to see them instead of wondering whether you bought a cup of dirt.
They're hardy, prolific and excellent feeders with a strong appetite for leaf litter, decaying wood and supplemental protein. Give them a good moisture gradient, plenty of cover and enough food and they'll establish quickly and produce a thriving colony.
They're an excellent beginner species, but they're just as useful for experienced keepers looking for an active display colony or a dependable cleanup crew.
