Scolopendra sp. "Ruby Red" - Hispaniolan Red Giant Centipede
The Hispaniolan Red Giant is a large, striking Scolopendra with intense red and orange coloration that makes them one of the more eye-catching giant centipedes in the hobby. They're powerful predators with a strong feeding response and spend much of their time beneath cork bark or buried in the substrate before becoming more active after dark.
Like other large Scolopendra, they're extremely fast, capable escape artists and possess medically significant venom. This is an animal for an experienced keeper who understands secure housing and hands-off maintenance.
They should be provided with deep substrate that retains some moisture, a secure hide, fresh water and an enclosure with absolutely no gaps or weak points. With the right setup, they're an impressive display animal and about as close as the invert hobby gets to keeping a tiny dragon.
